Starr grew up tinkering in her mother's sewing room, making mini dresses, cutting up jeans, and disassembling old jewelry to re-string into new designs. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in business from Kenan-Flagler Business School in 2011. In Christmas of 2012, Starr asked her mom for a metalsmith 101 course to take her jewelry hobby to the next level. With a desire to be in the jewelry studio 24/7, Starr began building her own studio piece by piece in her unfinished Atlanta basement. A few months later, the Pieces of Starr brand was born. With the help of amazing mentors and a few great textbooks, Starr built her skills to a professional level, taking courses from master stone setter Blaine Lewis at The New Approach for Jewelers, Master Wax Carver Kate Wolf, and Brooklyn jewelry designer Erin Considine. The vision of Pieces of Starr is to create daring jewelry for the strangely sexy human.
